About the artist

Welcome! My name is Kirra-Lea and I am a trade-qualified jeweller who has been manufacturing for over 10 years. My passion lies in contemporary jewellery, particularly using and manipulating nature and raw materials to create bespoke jewellery.

Workshop bits and pieces

This one day workshop is specifically design for beginners with no previous experience as well as more advanced makers who are interested in adding to their skill set.

I will guide you through the process of designing and making a stack of rings. We will be incorporating embossed patterns and textures to sterling silver and copper. All materials are supplied for students. With our left over embossed metal we will make some studs earrings to compliment your stack of rings!

It is my aim that you will finish the workshop satisfied with your unique creations and feel inspired by the possibilities of jewellery-making.

All tools and materials are covered in the workshop fee. Sterling silver and copper will be provided. The materials supplied will allow students to make up to 4 stacker rings. For bigger or more namouras projects extra metal can be purchased in class. Sterling silver will be $2.5 per gram, and copper and brass $1.8 per gram. Cash or bank transfer options.

You are welcome to bring along your own metal to use in class! Also your own materials to emboss onto your metal to create personal textures and patterns. There will be lots of options provided to choose from if you dont bring your own.

What you will learn

Embossing                                           Filing and emerying

Soldering                                             Forming rings

Hammer texture                                   Saw piercing

Applying a patina                                 Polishing

What is embossing?

Embossing is a stamping process for producing raised or sunken designs or relief in sheet metal. This process can be made by passing a strip of metal between rolls of the desired pattern.

 Duration: 7 hours over one class. 10am - 5pm

What to bring

The classes are limited to 4 students to ensure a flexible and tailored experience. All you need to bring is yourself! Snacks, tea and coffee will be provided. Please arrive dressed appropriately: closed in shoes, long pants and hair tied back. Please note that we are working with fire and metal, so it can get a little messy!

Where

We will be creating at the beautiful Mayben Artisan Jeweller Studio, Suite 9 115/113 Main Rd, Moonah, Tasmania.
