About the artist

Welcome! My name is Kirra-Lea and I am a trade-qualified jeweller who has been manufacturing for over 10 years. My passion lies in contemporary jewellery, particularly using and manipulating nature and raw materials to create bespoke jewellery.

Workshop bits and pieces

This three evening workshop is specifically design for beginners with no previous experience as well as more advanced makers who are interested in adding to their skill set.

I will guide you through the process of designing and making a spinner ring. We will be incorporating embossed textures on the sterling silver, coper and brass supplied for every student.

It is my aim that you will finish the workshop satisfied with your unique creations and feel inspired by the possibilities of jewellery-making.

All tools and materials are covered in the workshop fee. Sterling silver, copper and brass will be provided. The material supplied will allow students to make one 15mm wide ring with up to 4 spinning rings. For bigger or more namouras projects extra metal can be purchased in class. Sterling silver will be $2.5 per gram, and copper and brass $1.8 per gram. Card, cash and bank transfer options.

You are welcome to bring along your own metal to use in class!

What you will learn

Embossing                                           Filing and emerying

Soldering                                             Forming rings

Hammer texture                                   Saw piercing

Applying a patina                                 Polishing

What is a spinner ring?

Spinner rings have an outer decorated band or bands which manually spins around the inner ring part. The inner ring is stable on your finger, while the outer ring or rings can be rotated

What is embossing?

Embossing is a stamping process for producing raised or sunken designs or relief in sheet metal. This process can be made by passing a strip of metal between rolls of the desired pattern.

What to bring

The classes are limited to 6 students to ensure a flexible and tailored experience. All you need to bring is yourself! Snacks, tea and coffee will be provided. Please arrive dressed appropriately: closed in shoes, long pants and hair tied back. Please note that we are working with fire and metal, so it can get a little messy!

This class is run over three Tuesday evenings starting at 6pm and going until 9pm.

19/07/22          6pm – 9pm

26/07/22          6pm – 9pm
